DAY 2: Snake Lagoon - Cape du Couedic Lighthouse
14 km, approx. 7 hours (moderate grade). Optional sidetrip 9.6 km return, 3 - 4 hours
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the track where you finished yesterday.
You will walk the Maupertuis Section of Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail today. This section of Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail follows the Snake Lagoon along Rocky River, and heads up the rocky headland above where Rocky River meets the ocean. Today's walk is wild, following the coastal cliffs towards the Cape du Couedic lighthouse. Here at the edge of the world there is nothing but the deep blue sea between you and Antarctica. The trail descends onto Maupertuis Beach to follow it for 1.5 km. Seafarers found this wild coastline unforgiving, with the remnants of shipwrecks that cost the lives of many, still visible today.

You may spot bottle-nosed dolphins, or perhaps a seal or sea-lion. If you're visiting between June and early October, you may be treated with majestic sight of Southern Right Whales on their annual migration to the Great Australian Bight.
You will experience colourful coastal plants, stunning and rugged beauty of the Flinders Chase National Park and some shipwreck remnants can be seen along the way. This is a spectacular walk, but is quite exposed to the coastal conditions and has large sections of beach walking.

The optional sidetrip to Admirals Arch is 9.6 km return and takes about 3 - 4 hours. The sidetrip takes you to Weirs Cove and Admirals. Weirs Cove is one of the most spectacular lookouts on the island. Pass the Cape du Couedic Lightstation and immerse yourself in history, and continue down to Admirals Arch to see long-nosed fur seals and Australian sea-lions basking in the sun on the rocks.
Transfer back to your accommodation. Enjoy your two-course freshly prepared meals overlooking the Southern Ocean.
