Guangxi: Wedged between Guangdong, central China, Yunnan and the Gulf of Tonkin, Guangxi is a diverse mix of cultures and ethnic groups against a backdrop of stunning landscape.

Guangxi is one of China's autonomous regions, ruled by Zhuang ethnic group, originally known as the Tai people from Southeast Asia. Northern Guangxi is home to meandering rivers and breathtaking karst mountains in locations such as Guilin and Yangshuo. It is also home to the picturesque Longsheng Rice Terraces that have attracted photographers from all over the world.

The terrain in Guangxi's south is characterised by a flatter terrain and subtropical climate. On the border with Vietnam, this part of Guangxi has become increasingly busy with the rise of trade and tourism.

    Trip Highlights

Guilin is one of the most beautiful places in China. Its stunning scenery, and, most notably, its canals, have been likened to the serene waterways of Venice and immortalised in song, poetry, and paintings.

Yangshuo is one of the most famous and popular travel towns in China and offers a laid-back atmosphere, Western fare, and beautiful scenery to those who pass through it.

Hop on a traditional bamboo raft to float down the Yulong River - a tributary of the Li River that offers a peaceful look at the region's limestone mountains.

Take a 30 - 40 minute scenic walk to the Li-An Lodge passing views of valleys and rice terraces on the way.

Hike at your own pace through minority villages along the verdant, softly undulating Dragon's Backbone Rice Terraces. The terraces fields are built along the slope from the riverside up to the mountain top, resembling a dragon's backbone. Most of these terraces fields were built 500 years ago and developed by the local minority people living in the 13 villages. Views are stunning when taking a few short hikes to the mountain top and into the fields from any villages, among which Ping'an, Dazhai and Jinkeng are most popular. Depending on the different time of year, you will see different colours: water glittering in spring, green rice shoots in summer, golden rice in fall, and silvery frost in winter.

Nearly 75% of Guangxi's inhabitants are non-Han, and Longsheng is home to a colourful mixture of Dong, Huang, Yao and Miao people.

In the event that we are forced to change your arrangements, substitute arrangements of a similar standard will be provided. Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and Age Limits
You need to advise OCT4 PTY LTD and the tour operator on any pre-existing medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a trip and the enjoyment of other trip members. Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The walks take place in very special wilderness settings. The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a walk with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the walk has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any walk up to 60 days prior to departure if a minimum of 4 walkers are unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the walk or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the OCT4 PTY LTD and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.

    Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which OCT4 Pty Ltd or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure OCT4 Pty Ltd will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.

In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.

For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the OCT4 PTY LTD and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.

    Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
