At A Glance Departures

Challenge yourself to The High Atlas Mountains and Mount Toubkal on this adventurous guided trek for experienced hikers.

Trek the village of Imlil along footpaths and mule tracks to other villages, which are scattered through the lush, irrigated terraces, apple orchards and walnut groves. You'll have unique opportunity to have a glimpse into a way of life that has barely changed for centuries and their traditional values and hospitality have been largely unaffected by the outside world.

Then spend two days to climb Jbel Toubkal (4,167m) and you'll have a wonderful sense of achievement on climbing North Africa's highest peak.

The tour provides a personal mountain guide who will be with you for the duration of the tour to help you with planning treks. You can choose to walk as little or as much as you like!

You will stay in luxury accommodation at the Kasbah du Toubkal in the trailhead village of Imlil, and also the trekking lodge in the remote Azzaden Valley where peace and tranquility prevail. The Toubkal summit part of the trip will entail staying at base camp in a mountain hut.

All trekking is fully supported with a mule and muleteer to carry your luggage whenever required, freeing you to enjoy the scenery and focus on achieving your goal.

Hike the High Atlas Mountains and summit Toubkal in style and be rewarded with spectacular views across the Atlas and beyond to the Sahara from the summit of Mt Toubkal.

Departure Dates:
Depart daily on request from April to October. Outside these times a winter Ascent may be possible subject to relevant experience and weather conditions.

  • FEATURES

A myriad of colours and spices greets you in Morocco, a diverse and fascinating country home to a colourful blend of African, Arabic and European cultures. Walking the winding streets of the cities’ medinas is a feast for the senses.

For a real Moroccan adventure, hiking the Atlas Mountains is a must-do experience. Lush valleys, cool canyons, remote villages and the highest peak in North Africa make this Moroccan mountain range epic.

The High Atlas Mountains stretches around 2,500 km (1,600 mi) through Morocco encircling Marrakesh to the south. The Toubkal Massif, enclosing the High Atlas's highest peaks, is the target destination of nearly everyone who goes trekking in Morocco. The mountains are home to the indigenous Berber people who have inhabited Morocco for at least 5000 years.

  • Accommodation

You will stay at Kasbah du Toubkal (3 nights) - a National Geographic Unique Lodge, and Azzaden Mountain Lodge (2 nights).

Kasbah du Toubkal is a luxury eco lodge in Imlil, at the base of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Nestled deep in the High Atlas Mountains and at 1800m above sea level, the Kasbah du Toubkal looks out over three major valleys carved from majestic rocky mountains rising to over 4,000 metres. With no road access, the Kasbah is reached by a 15-minute uphill walk or mule ride from the village reception in Imlil.

As it is staffed entirely by local villagers, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy true Berber hospitality, a characteristic they are well known for.

The ensuite bedrooms at the Kasbah are authentically Moroccan with generous, comfortable beds, cool sheets, hand-woven covers and cushions. Tea & coffee making facilities and fridge is available. Standard ensuite rooms offer twin or double bed accommodation, plus shower and WC wet room facilities.

Kasbah du Toubkal has several terraces and salons from where to enjoy the views or relax. The peace and quiet and seclusion are so complete the city seems a million miles away.

Azzaden Mountain Lodge is a smaller version of the Kasbah with 4 ensuite bedrooms. This allows you to reach a more remote area of the mountains and enjoy a rural location in a valley that has hardly been touched.

The Toubkal summit part of the trip will entail staying at the Neltner (3207m) base camp in a mountain hut. For those that choose the more challenging route (for very experienced walkers), you will stay at the Lepiney Hut before crossing the Tizi n’Ougelzim pass (3650m).

Please contact us for accommodation upgrades or tailor-made itinerary. E: travel@onlyluxe.com.au

  • Weather and Climate

In Morocco, the climate is Mediterranean on the coasts, while it's desert in inland areas, and continental in the highest mountains. The best travel time is spring and autumn, in March-April and from October to mid-November. For a beach holiday, you can go on the Atlantic coast from July to September, and on the Mediterranean coast in July and August.

In Casablanca, the average temperature ranges from 13 °C (55.5 °F) in January to 23 °C (73 °F) in July and August.

In Marrakesh, the average ranges from 12 °C (53.5 °F) in January to 28 °C (82 °F) in July and August.

Fez is a bit colder and rainier. The average temperature ranges from 9 °C (48 °F) in January to 26 °C (79 °F) in July and August.

In Ifrane, it can snow in winter, even though the snowfalls are more abundant in the mountain peaks. In summer, when the sun dominates, every so often, some showers can occur.

The Atlantic coast enjoys a mild climate, similar to that of the Mediterranean but even milder. On the Mediterranean coast, the climate is typically Mediterranean: winters are mild and moderately rainy, and resemble those of the northern part of the Atlantic coast, while summers are hot and sunny, and they are hotter than on the Atlantic coast. In Al Hoceima, the temperature ranges from 12 °C (53.5 °F) in January to 25 °C (77 °F) in August.

    Changes to Itineraries
Local conditions may necessitate changes to sightseeing, walking and driving routes, camping and accommodation locations. While every effort will be made to provide the services and experiences as offered in our brochure, on our website, and in our trip letters, we reserve the right to vary your itinerary. In the event that we are forced to change your arrangements, substitute arrangements of a similar standard will be provided. The tour operator will not be liable where interruptions to itineraries are caused by weather conditions, technical problems to transport used by the tour operator, industrial action, political or civil commotion or other circumstances beyond our control. We refer you to the conditions regarding travel insurance.

While we will do its utmost to honour its pricing unforeseen circumstances may mean that prices may be subject to change without notice.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and Age Limits
You need to advise OCT4 PTY LTD and the tour operator on any pre-existing medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a trip and the enjoyment of other trip members. OCT 4 PTY LTD and the tour operator may require an assessment of your medical condition from a qualified medical practitioner. If you fail to adequately notify the tour operator of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability, the tour operator reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members.

    Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The walks take place in very special wilderness settings. The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a walk with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the walk has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any walk up to 60 days prior to departure if a minimum of 4 walkers are unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the walk or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the OCT4 PTY LTD and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.

    Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which OCT4 Pty Ltd or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure OCT4 Pty Ltd will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.

    Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.

For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the OCT4 PTY LTD and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.

    Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
