The Tarkine: The Tarkine (indigenous name: takayna) is an area containing the Savage River National Park in the north west Tasmania, Australia. The Tarkine is noted for its beauty and natural values, containing the largest area of Gondwanan cool-temperate rainforest in Australia, sand dunes, coastal heathland as well as for its prominence in Tasmania's early mining history and strong links to the Tasmanian Aboriginal people.

The plant and animal life here is as rich and varied as the many habitats that support them. Local residents include the platypus, echidna, wombat, bandicoot, possum and glider - not to mention the famous Tasmanian Devil and the state's other predators, the Spotted-tailed Quoll and Eastern Quoll.

The Tarkine also hosts over a hundred bird species, including several rare and endemic birds like the threatened Orange-bellied Parrot.

Pieman river cruise on the Arcadia II: On day 3, you will enjoy the Pieman Cruise on the Arcadia II. It offers unique experience on the Gordon River, with excellent commentary, stunning reflections, freedom from other vessels and a truly personal experience with the river and rainforest.

The Arcadia II is a magnificent 17m craft built of huon pine in 1939 and listed on the Australian register of Historic Vessels in 2009. She has a leisurely cruising speed of 9 knots. Originally a luxury pleasure craft based in Hobart, it was requisitioned to serve in the Second World War in New Guinea as a supply ship. After some seasons as a scallop fishing boat on the East coast working from the Coles Bay area, the Arcadia was commissioned as a cruise boat on Macquarie Harbour and the Gordon River in 1961. In 1970 she moved to Pieman River where she faithfully served her new owners, the Ellis brothers, who introduced the first regular cruises on the Pieman River.
  • Accommodation

Two nights' accommodation at the Corinna Wilderness Resort.

    Corinna Wilderness Resort
The Corinna Wilderness Experience provides an escape to one of the most remote and beautiful parts of the world, where guests are at home in the wilderness.

Corinna is an historic mining town, set in pristine rainforest on the banks of the majestic Pieman River in western Tasmania. It was inhabited by white settlers in 1881 and proclaimed a town in 1894, following a flood of people coming to the area in pursuit of gold. It sits at the southern end of the Tarkine the largest temperate rainforest in Australia - and is the northern most point where the famous Huon pine grows. This ancient unbroken tract of rainforest shows a world beyond human memory and is a living link with the ancient super continent Gondwanaland.

For two nights stay at the iconic Corinna Wilderness Resort. All guests will stay in newly built one bedroom cottages with ensuites. Each cottage has been built with a rustic exterior in keeping with the gold mining town that once thrived in this location. Whilst the interiors of each cottage are modern and warm with cosy fires, ensuites and individual verandahs where you can sit back and soak up the scenery and atmosphere.

The eco wilderness retreat cottages have their own private facilities. Corinna runs on solar power. There is electricity for charging devices, but no television, mobile coverage or wi-fi at Corinna. For heating purposes there is a small gas fired log fire in each cabin.
  • Food & Wine

After walking, you then head back to your accommodation to unpack and here you enjoy wonderful dinners in the Corinna Wilderness Resort’s Restaurant Tannin each evening. The restaurant features locally sourced produce including Cape Rim Beef, Black Ridge Pork and Strahan Salmon. • Weather and Climate

Summer (December, January, February) means miles of squeaking sand, long twilights, the white lace of surf, warm sun on your back, breezes from the sea, green light on fern fronds and insects buzzing over amber pools. It's the time to head for the beaches or bushwalk in the forests to cast a lure for trout. In the forests and on the coast wildflowers are blooming.

    Average high 21°C (70°F)
    Average low 12°C (54°F)

Winter (June, July, August) is a dusting of snow on highland peaks and toasting your toes by an open fire. Winter days are often crisp, clear and bracing.

    Average high 12°C (54°F)
    Average low 8°C (46°F)

Spring (September, October, November) is cool, fresh and green, and the season for celebrating a new beginning as nature bursts into life. Spring is also the time to get ready for some trout fishing action, as the fish start biting again in our inland lakes and streams.

    Average high 17°C (63°F)
    Average low 8°C (46°F)

Autumn (March, April, May) is a mellow season with calm, sunny days. It's the time when the native deciduous beech blazes with colour. Not to be outdone, the European trees are also a riot of red, orange and gold.

    Changes to Itineraries
Local conditions may necessitate changes to sightseeing, walking and driving routes, camping and accommodation locations. While every effort will be made to provide the services and experiences as offered in our brochure, on our website, and in our trip letters, we reserve the right to vary your itinerary. In the event that we are forced to change your arrangements, substitute arrangements of a similar standard will be provided. The tour operator will not be liable where interruptions to itineraries are caused by weather conditions, technical problems to transport used by the tour operator, industrial action, political or civil commotion or other circumstances beyond our control. We refer you to the conditions regarding travel insurance.

    Changes in Prices
While we will do its utmost to honour its pricing unforeseen circumstances may mean that prices may be subject to change without notice.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and Age Limits
You need to advise Onlyluxe travel and the tour operator on any pre-existing medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a trip and the enjoyment of other trip members. Onlyluxe Travel and the tour operator may require an assessment of your medical condition from a qualified medical practitioner. If you fail to adequately notify the tour operator of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability, the tour operator reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members.

    Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The walks take place in very special wilderness settings. The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a walk with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the walk has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any walk up to 60 days prior to departure if a minimum of 4 walkers are unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the walk or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.

    Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which Onlyluxe Travel or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure Onlyluxe Travel will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.

In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.

For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the Onlyluxe Travel and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.

    Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
