This classic Kakadu adventure delivers the quintessential bushwalk experiences. Over six magnificent days, discover Kakadu and Litchfield national parks by foot. Venture among remote picturesque gorges, through lush monsoon forests and past freshwater billabongs teeming with wildlife. Visit the famous Jim Jim and Twin Falls, admire ancient rock art seen by very few visitors, and take the famous Yellow Water sunset cruise to see giant crocodiles, a vast range of resident birdlife and many other native species. Get away from the crowds on this active, walking based itinerary, and walk beyond the main tourist sites and reveal the true magic of Kakadu.

Kakadu National Park is a World Heritage Area covering some 20,000 square kms. Waterfalls tumble from the red cliffs off the Arnhem Land escarpment into shady pools. Tranquil wetlands teem with animal and bird life, while 40,000 years of Aboriginal cultural heritage is on display in the numerous hidden rock art galleries.

You'll stay at the semi‐permanent campsites for five nights relaxing in idyllic tropical surrounds. The itinerary varies to make the most of the season, choosing the best walks and waterfalls as the wet season floodwaters recede and access opens up.

All meals are included for the duration of the walk as well as transfers to and from Darwin. Small groups of 12 walkers are hosted by two professional wilderness guides.

This is fully supported walk and you only need to carry a day pack.

This is an amazing walking adventure and worth the effort to see this beautiful country. Return having enjoyed a complete adventure across the full range of tropical wilderness of Australia’s Top End.

  • Accommodation

Stay in exclusive semi-permanent safari camps for 5 nights.

These semi-permanent safari camps provide simple, comfortable camping accommodations in convenient locations. These campsites would not be possible without a strong partnership with Aboriginal Traditional Owners and the Kakadu National Park who jointly manage the land.

One camp is near Miurella Park in the Jim Jim district of the Central North of Kakadu. This allows easy access to Cooinda, Yellow Waters, Nourlangie, Jim Jim and Twin Falls. In the south we have set up a safari camp at Gunlom, Kakadu’s most iconic plunge pool and waterfall.

Each camp is adjacent to a National Park campground, featuring excellent solar hot showers and the flushing toilet facilities.

The advantage of a semi-permanent safari camp is that everything is set up waiting for you. There is no time and effort wasted with setting-up or packing-down camp, allowing more time for walking, exploring or just relaxing.

The tents are a custom built safari tent, each 2.4m x 2.4m x 2.1m, offering plenty of room for two people, swags and gear. The inner tent has mesh walls so it is easy to remove the fly sleep under the stars. There are enough tents at each site where single travellers can request a single tent at no additional cost.

  • Food

High quality and nutritional meals are provided. Wherever possible your meals are prepared using fresh produce sourced from local providers and carefully selected, stored and transported so as to maintain freshness and quality. There is often plenty of fresh fish, meat or other protein based main dishes and fresh salads.

Your guides have remarkable wilderness culinary skills and pride themselves on the variety and standard of their meals, and ability to cater to a wide range of dietary requirements. Please ensure you let us know if you have a birthday or special occasion during the trip so we can help you commemorate the occasion! The following is a general guide:

Breakfasts: Ranges from cooked eggs and bacon on toast, to continental (fruit, cereal, yoghurt). Always accompanied by fresh coffee and hot drinks.

Lunches: Depending on the trip, you may prepare your lunch such as wraps or sandwiches in camp before the day’s trek. Most often we have a picnic style lunch on the track with a wide selection of bread rolls, wraps, deli-meats, salads and spreads to prepare a tasty lunch how you like it.

Dinners: 2-3 courses. The main meal is usually a classic outback style meal such as grilled barramundi, camp-oven roast, or perhaps a tasty stir-fry or pasta dish.

Snacks: Your guides will always have plenty of trail snacks available such as muesli bars and fruit. In the evenings we often serve hors d’oeuvres around the campfire while dinner is being prepared.

Dietary Requirements: Provided we are advised in advance of your departure we are able to cater for vegetarian diets and can assist with medically recommended diets (allergies and intolerances). Please contact us at time of booking.

  • Getting There

    - The departure point is Darwin NT
    - Major commercial flights provide convenient access to Darwin
  • Weather and Climate

The Top End is dominated by a tropical monsoonal weather pattern that results in a number of distinct seasons.

April to July - the early part of the 'Dry'
Nights can be cool and early morning fogs common. The days are warm, dry and generally cloudless with some spectacular sunsets. From April the water begins to slowly recede from the floodplains.

August to September - late part of the 'Dry'
Days and nights start to warm up. The retreating waters concentrate in billabongs together with the birdlife which congregates in extraordinary numbers. Many tropical woodland plants flower at this time of year.

October to December - build up to the 'Wet'
This is a time of increasing humidity and heat, with the build up of massive cumulus clouds and exciting thunder and lightning shows. Early rains start to turn the country green.

January to March - the main part of the 'Wet'
The arrival of the full monsoon brings heavy rains and high tides. The rivers break their banks and spread out across the floodplains, water lilies flower and life returns to the country in all its majesty. The ‘run off’ is the best time of year for Barramundi fishing.

In the event that we are forced to change your arrangements, substitute arrangements of a similar standard will be provided. Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and Age Limits
You need to advise OCT4 PTY LTD and the tour operator on any pre-existing medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of your requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a trip and the enjoyment of other trip members. OCT 4 PTY LTD and the tour operator may require an assessment of your medical condition from a qualified medical practitioner. If you fail to adequately notify the tour operator of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability, the tour operator reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to cancel your participation in a trip at any time, including after the commencement of your trip, with no right of refund if your medical condition, mobility impairment and/or disability could be reasonably expected to affect the normal conduct of the trip and the enjoyment of other trip members.

    Cancellation by The Tour Operator
The walks take place in very special wilderness settings. The tour operator is at the mercy of nature in all her beauty and all her fury. The tour operator will under no circumstance knowingly place at risk the health and well-being of our guests and guides. In the case of natural threats, acts of God and the like (e.g. bushfires, impassable snow, etc) the tour operator may need to cancel a walk with very little notice. In some cases, this can occur after the walk has commenced. The tour operator reserves the right to cancel any walk up to 60 days prior to departure if a minimum of 4 walkers are unable to meet for a tour. If the tour operator needs to cancel for any reason, the cost of the walk or any other costs associated with travel to the designated pick up point, overnight accommodation, meals, etc will not be covered by the OCT4 PTY LTD and therefore we strongly recommend travel insurance be taken out prior to travel.

    Force Majeure
'Force Majeure' means (without restriction) any event which OCT4 Pty Ltd or its third party providers could not, even with due care, foresee or avoid. Force Majeure covers events such as, but not limited to, adverse weather conditions, fire and all similar events beyond our control. In the case of Force Majeure OCT4 Pty Ltd will not accept liability, and reserves the right to change and cancel trips.

    Evacuations
In rare circumstances, due to injury or unforeseen illness, the tour operator may need to evacuate you from a remote part of the walk. Helicopter evacuations are expensive and in most cases will be at a cost to the customer.

For Australian residents, under the Australian Government Medicare Act, it is prohibited for any domestic travel insurance product to provide any financial reimbursement with regard to ambulance or air ambulance services. We therefore strongly advise our customers to take specific ambulance cover through their health insurance provider. Evacuation cost will not be covered by the OCT4 PTY LTD and therefore it is also strongly recommended that our customers take out travel insurance to cover (amongst other things) the costs associated with evacuation.

    Travel Insurance
In view of the heavy cancellation penalties applied to cancelled reservations in certain circumstances, we strongly recommends suitable travel insurance be purchased at the time the holding deposit is paid. We recommend insurance cover that covers any loss which may be suffered due to cancellation. We also strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance against loss of baggage and medical expenses.
